Documentation for Serve Beyond Cincinnati
This experience was a Serve Beyond Cincinnati (SBC) experience to Tallahassee, Florida. Before the experience, I read multiple books about service work and community building. Then, on January 1st, 2017, I went to Florida for a week. I helped a team of University of Cincinnati students re-roof a house for the Fuller Center for Housing. During the day, I helped re-roof a home, and in the evenings, I traveled around Tallahassee, talked with locals, and spent time exploring an overall unfamiliar part of the USA with other members of the SBC group. Once I got back from the trip, I make a website about my service work, and then I shared that website through social media sites. From this experience, I learned that I enjoyed going on service trips, and that I liked traveling. Also, I learned that service work is sometimes hectic and tiresome, but creates real impact for people and is overall worth it. I gained a better gratitude for the life I am able to live, and because of this experience, I better understand how a community forms and how I can give back to the communities I am a part of.
